Booking terms & conditions for passengers, drivers and partners

Last updated: 7 September 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern bookings made with National Taxi And Private Hire ("we", "us", "our") through our websites, apps, telephone booking lines and partner channels. By placing a booking you accept these terms on behalf of all passengers in your party.

2. Bookings

  • A booking is only confirmed once you receive a written confirmation (email, SMS or in-app).
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of pickup and drop-off addresses, dates, times, passenger and luggage numbers.
  • Local journeys within Helensburgh and Argyll & Bute are carried out in licensed taxis (maximum 6 passengers).
  • 8-seater vehicles are pre-booked private hire only and are not available for street or rank hire.

3. Fares, quotes and surcharges

  • Local fares are metered on the Argyll and Bute Council licensed taxi tariff in force at the time of travel. Distance, cross-border and worldwide hires are fixed-price quotes based on the details you supply.
  • A pre-booking administration fee of £0.40 applies to advance local bookings.
  • Airport pickups carry a £10 airport surcharge; a meet-and-greet service inside the terminal is £25. Airport access fees, drop-off/pickup charges and parking may be added where applicable.
  • Pre-booked 8-seater private hire on a local (metered) journey is charged at double (2×) the council tariff.
  • Extra pickup or drop-off points ("via" stops) are charged per additional stop and mile, plus waiting time at the stop.
  • Online estimates are indicative until confirmed; material changes to the route, stops, passengers, luggage or timing may change the price.
  • Tolls, ferries, congestion or clean-air charges may be added where applicable.
  • Prices shown in currencies other than GBP are converted for guidance; the contract currency is GBP unless agreed otherwise.

4. Payment

  • At booking you choose either pre-paid (pay upfront) or pay at the end of the journey. Upfront methods include online card prepayment, bank transfer and payment by phone; end-of-journey methods include card, cash and approved business/corporate accounts.
  • Card payments are processed by our payment providers (Stripe / Worldpay); we do not store full card details. A card-processing fee may be added to card payments.
  • Where you authorise a card for a future charge, we may place a pre-authorisation hold to verify the card.
  • Prepaid fares paid through the platform include a 10% platform surcharge where the journey is fulfilled through our payment rails; the driver's own base fare is unchanged.
  • Business account invoices are payable within the agreed terms; late payment may result in suspension of the account.
  • Cash bookings carry no booking, messaging or platform fee to the passenger.

5. Waiting time

  • Airport arrivals include a complimentary waiting allowance from the flight's actual landing time; thereafter waiting time is charged at the applicable tariff rate.
  • For all other pickups a grace period of 5 minutes applies from the booked pickup time, after which waiting time is charged at the tariff rate.
  • Waiting at via stops and return-leg stops is charged at the tariff waiting rate.
  • Please provide flight, train or ferry details so we can track delays and adjust pickup times.

6. Cancellations and no-shows

  • You may cancel free of charge before a driver has been allocated to your booking.
  • Once a driver has been confirmed, a late cancellation incurs a £5 cancellation charge.
  • Once the driver is en route to your pickup, a late cancellation incurs a £10 cancellation charge, plus the driver's chargeable travel ("dead mileage") to reach your pickup at the tariff per-mile rate where applicable.
  • If the passenger cannot be located at the pickup point after the 5-minute grace period and reasonable contact attempts, the booking is treated as a no-show and a £10 no-show charge applies, plus the driver's chargeable travel to the pickup.
  • Cancellation and no-show charges are taken from the payment card held on the booking or added to your account invoice.
  • We may cancel a booking for safety, licensing or non-payment reasons and will refund any prepayment for the cancelled journey.

7. Out-of-area and short journeys

  • All Argyll & Bute journeys are dispatched from our Helensburgh base. Pickups inside the home zone — Helensburgh, Rhu, Shandon, Faslane, Cardross, and the Cameron House–Balloch corridor — are local and never attract dead-mileage charges.
  • For short journeys booked outside the home zone, a dead-mileage charge may apply for the empty miles the driver covers from Helensburgh to reach your pickup, at the tariff per-mile rate and/or a flat call-out fee shown on your quote before you confirm.
  • Distance hires are priced on the Argyll & Bute Council distance-hire scale (or your quoted fixed fare) and never attract a dead-mileage charge.
  • Where your journey is fulfilled by a driver or partner with their own approved rates, those rates apply instead and are shown on your quote.

8. Passengers, luggage and conduct

  • Passenger and luggage capacity must not exceed the booked vehicle's limits; extra or oversized items must be declared in advance.
  • Children must travel in an appropriate child seat where required by law; please request one when booking.
  • Assistance dogs are always welcome; other animals must be agreed in advance.
  • Smoking, vaping and open alcohol are not permitted in our vehicles.
  • Drivers may refuse or end a journey where behaviour is abusive, unsafe or unlawful; no refund is due in those circumstances.
  • Soiling of a vehicle may incur a valeting charge.

9. Delays and liability

We plan journeys with sensible time allowances but cannot accept liability for delays caused by traffic, weather, road closures, ferry disruption or other events outside our reasonable control. We are not liable for indirect losses such as missed flights where the booking allowed insufficient time. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Lost property

Items left in a vehicle are logged and held securely where recovered. Please contact us as soon as possible. A delivery or handling charge may apply for return by courier or driver.

11. Drivers, partners and payouts

Journeys are performed by licensed drivers and licensed operators on our network. Driver and partner participation is governed by the driver agreement and subscription terms, summarised here:

  • Drivers and partners pay a £20 per week platform subscription. New drivers receive a 90-day free trial, and the weekly fee only applies once weekly earnings exceed £500.
  • A 10% platform commission applies to every booking, on all channels and payment methods, in addition to the weekly subscription. On card and prepaid journeys it is deducted from the payout; on cash journeys the driver keeps the full fare at the door and the 10% is added to the weekly invoice.
  • Pass-through costs are charged at cost: card-processing fees on card payments and £0.02 per SMS where our SMS service is used. Email and WhatsApp messaging are free.
  • Drivers and partners may use their own APIs (Google Maps, SMS, payments) on their account; usage is then billed directly by those providers.
  • Where a driver or partner provides their own payment link, passengers may pay them directly and no platform surcharge is added to the passenger.
  • Wallet payouts are made by bank transfer on scheduled payout runs; payout timing and minimum balances are shown in the driver app.

12. Data protection

We handle personal data in line with our privacy policy, which explains what we collect, how it is used and your rights under UK GDPR.

13. Complaints

Please contact us with your booking reference and we will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within five working days.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland and are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
